The time has come once again to pack up for the summer, deep clean and batten down the hatches. My list above is a short list, in no particular order of the items we need to do before we go. Things like: put books in bags and vacuum pack sheets and pillows. But before many of these items are done (and I just remembered another to add to the list) I have to cull our belongings for items that we no longer need. While on the surface this seems like a tedious task, I do find some satisfaction, if not enjoyment in doing this. I am forced to ask about so many things we own: Purpose? Is it used? Who might be able to use it? Many things also make it into the trash (remember there is no recycling here). Much of the trash items are paper - kid produced. I don't have much of a problem tossing many of these creations. It seems that for the kids the beauty and fun are in the process of making, not in keeping or displaying. There are a few items I keep, or photograph but most get carried out the door. C has a drawer in his room to corral all his creations. As part of my sorting process I opened it and looked inside. Most of what was in there were cards with little creatures he's drawn and named. A few origami, some handmade books. One that stands out is his werewolf identification guide: the Clock werewolf with good hearing, the Death Hug werewolf with goggles, cloak and long toenails and then the Disco werewolf who likes hula-hooping.

end of the year :: ballet
We all had fun and of course they couldn't wait to wear the dresses. We have had them hanging in their closet for a month now, waiting for the day. What to do with the dresses after the show? Well I think they'll become part of their dress ups. They are so well made, but not reused from year to year. The kids have new dance routines and music each year, and so too the costumes.

almost
I almost repurposed these overalls that my siblings (and possibly I) wore and my kids wore. The knees have holes and many spots are threadbare and worn. I had planned to incorporating the leg fabric into some pants for W and maybe using the pockets and snaps for something. So before I cut into them I put them on W to take a picture and they were so darn cute I couldn't do it. Saved at the last moment to live yet another year on the body of a baby.

Saturday Market
This market takes place early saturday mornings at the old slave trading station. The station is undergoing a historical restoration so the market has overflowed into the street. This was my first visit - in search of honey. I was a little intimidated, still not completely understanding the accent and also being conspicuously out of place. I am clearly a continental in looks, dress and accent. But, in an attempt to fit in I asked one sunny looking woman about her produce and purchased from her some kale, celery and Virgin Island honey.
little friend
This little friend was outside C's window. The frogs have been especially loud during the past few weeks. They must know it is spring but to us most days look and feel the same.
